Transfer restriction
A condition that travels with an instrument and constrains who may receive it — jurisdiction, accreditation, or a lock-up period. The engineering question is not enforcement but evidence: proving which restriction applied at a past moment.
Common causes
Restrictions updated in place, leaving no record of the rule that governed an earlier transfer.
What good looks like
Append-only versioning, with each transfer recording the restriction version it was checked against.
