Chain selection
The written exercise of choosing which ledger, if any, a system runs on. Its output is a document naming the candidates, the confirmation threshold assumed for each, the operating cost modelled, and the options excluded with reasons.
Common causes
Selection fails when it is run as a technology comparison rather than as an inquiry into the institution’s settlement obligation.
What good looks like
A shortlist of two or three, a stated finality assumption per candidate, an operating cost model, and a recorded rationale for every exclusion.
