Settlement tolerance

The size of difference between two records that is treated as operationally normal rather than raised as a break — agreed with finance in advance, not discovered by trial and error during the first reconciliation.

Common causes

A tolerance set by engineering by default, without finance’s sign-off, so that either real breaks are ignored or immaterial noise floods a break queue nobody can keep up with.

What good looks like

A tolerance agreed with finance before launch, revisited on a schedule, with every breach outside it logged to a named owner.
